Press Briefing: Members of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care will hold a press conference to call on the Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Affairs to implement a gas integrity plan. We are responding to numerous calls made to our office from motorists who have voiced their concerns over the quality of gasoline. 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement believes the Department of Consumer Affairs should take the following steps to ensure the quality and integrity of gasoline sales:
- Increase the number of field inspectors assigned to monitor the quality of
gasoline
- Increase the number of field inspections in regards to pricing
irregularities
- List on the Department of Consumer Affairs website the names of gas
stations that are found to be in violation of gasoline quality/pricing
regulations
- Conduct random cost analysis to determine if price gouging is occurring
and if economically deprived communities are being redlined for higher gas
prices
- Create a complaint hotline for motorists to report abuses in pricing or
gas quality
- Recommend a substantial increase in penalty for those establishments that
are found to be in violation of regulations
- Recommend a doubling of fines for repeated violators of quality/pricing
irregularities
