Press Briefing: The group 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care will hold a press conference immediately after worship service at Abyssinian Baptist church. The group will respond to the NYPD’s disrespectful treatment of Rev. Calvin Butts and his family during the issuance of a parking summons. As allegations of racial profiling and discriminatory law enforcement strategies increase, it is imperative that a review of NYPD documents is conducted. The NYPD should make available all official documents to ascertain if there is unequal enforcement of the law. 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care spokesperson Marq Claxton states, “The treatment of Rev. Calvin Butts is an example of the overzealous and heavy handed enforcement that occurs daily in Black and Latino communities throughout the City. The NYPD must be held accountable for enforcement strategies that are race based.”
