100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care along with the National Latino Officers Association, Attorneys and their clients allege widespread racial bias and unlawful application of the Trespass laws by the NYPD
For Immediate Release
Press Briefing: 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care allege that the NYPD is routinely charging innocent people with Trespass. 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care spokesperson Marq Claxton states, “The NYPD is routinely unlawfully detaining and arresting innocent people in order to meets their summons and arrest quota goals. As is the case with ‘stop and frisk’, this enforcement practice is targeting the Black and Latino community.” Attorney John Rodriguez sums up the frustration of his clients stating, “My clients, like far too many innocent people, are fearful and threatened by both the criminal element and an overaggressive misguided Police Department.” National Latino Officers Association executive chairman Anthony Miranda states, “This is just another method by which the NYPD uses targeted enforcement to disenfranchise and criminalize the Black and Latino communities.” 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Car and the National Latino Officers Association are calling for immediate investigations of both the NYPD’s trespass enforcement strategy as well as the respective District Attorney’s offices’ prosecution of the Trespass arrests and summonses.
