FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press Briefing: The recent arrests of 4 individuals for robberies committed in Southeast Queens revealed that vitally important crime pattern information is not being disseminated to the merchants and residents of Southeast Queens. In addition to the communications failure, the NYPD has failed to commit adequate police resources to the effected community. 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care co-founder Marq Claxton states, “the merchants and residents of Laurelton Queens have been denied adequate professional police service. In a short period, at least 4 commercial locations, all within blocks of each other were robbed. Not only didn’t the NYPD notify the area merchants or the residents of an active crime pattern, but they continue ignore the need for permanent foot posts assigned to area. We demand to know the extent and scope of the current crime patterns in the area and when will there be a permanent deployment of Police Officers to deter it” In response to community concerns, New York City Council-member James Sanders Jr. recently held an emergency community/merchant meeting to call for additional police resources and establish a dialogue with the local merchants about their safety concerns and needs. 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care in conjunction with New York Council-member James Sanders Jr. are preparing a crime prevention/response package for the local merchants.
