Law enforcement organization calls for a Department of Justice civil rights investigation following the arrest, incarceration and continued prosecution of bias assault victim Aloysius Staton
For Immediate Release
Press Briefing: 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care is demanding the Department of Justice to investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrest and ongoing criminal prosecution of Aloysius Staton in Nassau County. Aloysius Staton and another young man were viciously attacked and assaulted by a gang of white men who directed racially offensive comments to them. Videotape evidence of the incident shows that the attack on Mr. Staton was unprovoked and Mr. Staton’s actions were an attempt to protect himself against a vicious bias attack. The Nassau County Police Department and District Attorney’s office has failed to arrest and charge the true perpetrators of the bias attack of both Mr. Staton and his friend. In addition the Nassau County District Attorney’s office has pursued felony Assault charges against the Black victim of the bias attack, Aloysius Staton, in spite of the videotape evidence and witness statements. To add insult to injury the victim, Mr. Staton, is facing a possible 25 year prison sentence. 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care co-founder Noel Leader states, “The incestuous relationship between the Nassau County Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office has resulted in blatant prosecutorial bias. We can’t allow investigative and prosecutorial bias to deny constitutional protections.”
100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care is demanding:
1) A Department of Justice civil rights investigation of the assault, incarceration and continued prosecution of Aloysius Staton
2) The immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the videotaped assault of Aloysius Staton
